Burma Spice, Inc., Edward, Brakus, Jr.
I have been fortunate to benefit from various forms of mentorship throughout my career. So when I first learned about SCORE, the value of the opportunity was immediately apparent. In fact, I had been working for some time to build a business advisory panel but had some difficulty finding seasoned professionals willing and able to spare time for our business. After a few years of hard work and entrepreneurship, Burma Spice has grown to a business with 12 employees, 1000 products, and growing sales in 7 countries.
The journey of growing Burma Spice with the help of SCORE has been rewarding and exciting. My SCORE Mentor Team helped me navigate thru financial restructuring decisions and acquire substantial SBA-backed funding thru Anchor Bank which supported strategic growth options. Furthermore, my SCORE Team directly connected Burma with the Immokalee Culinary Accelerator facility in Collier County which has led to local agricultural product sourcing as well as exciting marketing opportunities.
Burma Spice is an e-commerce company started in 2016 in a spare bedroom with a coffee grinder and cinnamon sticks and has grown quickly selling its own branded spices. We produce and sell our unique brand of exotic spices using farm-2-table sourcing for the best quality. We bring good jobs and full health benefits to a disadvantaged community.
